Privacy policy

This policy covers leocelis.com and the Living Books at books.leocelis.com. They measure visits with their own visit log, and no one else’s. They have no forms, and nothing is sold.

What is collected

• Visit log. Pages viewed (with any tags in the link you followed), links you click, your browser, device and language, your IP address, and the time. On the books, it also records which chapters you open, how far you scroll, and when you finish a book.
• Request logs. Every page load sends your IP address and browser to the host that serves the page.
• In your browser. The visit log recognizes a returning visitor from their IP address and browser language, and stores nothing in your browser. This site remembers which quote it last showed you, and the books remember your light or dark choice, your text size and the last edition you saw. The quote and your reading choices never leave your browser.

Who receives it

• The visit log records each visit on servers run by DigitalOcean. Privacy policy
• Cloudflare passes requests to the visit log, so it receives the same request data. Privacy policy
• The same visit log also measures other sites Leo Celis runs, so visits from the same IP address and browser language are linked across them.
• Amazon Web Services hosts this site and books.leocelis.com, which the book shelf on the home page loads from, and keeps their standard request logs. Privacy policy
• ComplyEdge serves the trust seal in the footer, so it receives the same request data. Privacy policy
• Google Fonts serves the typefaces on books.leocelis.com, so it receives your IP address and browser when a book page loads. This site does not use it. Privacy

No one else. Nothing further is shared, unless the law requires it.

Cookies and storage

Neither site sets cookies of its own. Cloudflare, in front of the visit log, may set a security cookie (__cf_bm) that expires after 30 minutes. The visit log stores nothing in your browser. This site keeps the last quote it showed you there, and the books keep your reading choices there.

What isn’t done

Nothing is sold or rented. There are no forms, no accounts and no sign-ups.

Do Not Track. These sites do not respond to Do Not Track signals. No advertising or analytics company tracks your visits through them.

How long it’s kept

• Request logs: for the host’s standard log period.
• The visit log: there is no set period. Records stay until they are deleted.
• The visit log’s server also writes each visit to its logs at DigitalOcean, kept for DigitalOcean’s standard log period.
• The last quote and your reading choices in your browser: until you clear them.

Your choices

• Turning off JavaScript for these sites stops the visit log. Clearing site data does not: the visit log recognizes you from your IP address and browser language, not from anything in your browser.
• To ask what is held about your visits or have it deleted, write to the address below with the IP address you visited from; the visit log files visits by IP address and browser language, not by name.

These sites are not meant for children under 13, and their information is not knowingly collected.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the change is listed here. The books link to this page from every footer.

• November 2, 2026: describes how the visit log recognizes returning visitors, its use on other sites, the Cloudflare cookie, reading progress on the books, its server logs, and how to ask for deletion. The visit log no longer stores IDs in your browser.
• November 1, 2026: covers the Living Books; analytics and advertising tags removed.
